SCENAR FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions about SCENAR Therapy
SCENAR is a non-invasive, safe method for relieving pain by stimulating the central nervous system using gentle biofeedback electro-therapy.
Our health -- and ability to live pain-free -- relies on the continuous and balanced exchange of information within the body. Every function of the body is interrelated and works in harmony with other functions -- that is until stress, injury or disease disrupts that communication and causes pain.
SCENAR devices communicate with the body primarily by stimulating C-fibers in the nervous system by applying targeted electrical impulses directly to the skin, usually on or near the area where pain is being experienced.
C-fibers -- which compromise 85% of all nerves in the body -- react most readily to electro-stimulation, and are responsible for the production of neuro peptides and other bio-active substances.
SCENAR therapy is not simply one-way communication: by tuning into the body's biofeedback -- electrical responses to stimulation -- SCENAR devices understand the body's needs from sophisticated interpretation of the body's own signals.
The SCENAR device sends out a series of electrical signals through the skin and measures the response. Each signal is only sent out when a change, in response to the previous signal, is recorded in the electrical properties of the skin.
The SCENAR device responds to the body's signals with gentle -- tuned -- electrical impulses that communicate with the nervous system to stimulate the body's own healing process, so your body can operate pain-free once again.
The SCENAR device re-energizes and encourages the body to use its own powerful internal pharmacy to reduce pain.
The process used by SCENAR is called "Reflex Biofeedback" -- an ongoing electrical dialog between your body and the SCENAR device that requires no effort on your part, and that acts as a catalyst to produce the regulatory peptides your body needs.
As these newly-produced peptides last up to several hours, the healing process will continue long after the treatment is over and it is often reported that the increased quantity of neuro peptides in the body can result in treatment on one area helping resolve other unrelated chemical imbalances, and often corrects sleeplessness, appetite and even mood issues.
SCENAR treatments are primarily associated with pain management. SCENAR treatments have a long track record of providing relief from a very broad spectrum of medical issues broadly related to joint pain including foot, ankle, knee, hip, shoulder, elbow, wrist, back and neck problems.
However, because of the nature of how SCENAR devices work – stimulating the nervous and immune systems – experience has shown that SCENAR treatments have a positive effect on many body systems.
The Russian experience, in particular, suggests that SCENAR treatments can be effective for relieving the symptoms of a very broad range of conditions, including stress related medical issues like chronic headaches, stress, tension and mood disorders.
SCENAR devices have been certified by many government health care regulatory bodies, beginning with Russia, their country of origin.
In North America both Health Canada and Cofepris in Mexico have certified SCENAR devices and treatments for pain and other medical conditions.
Regulations about who can prescribe SCENAR in the United States vary from state to state but, generally speaking, virtually any licensed health care professional can do so.
The list of American health care professionals who can prescribe SCENAR always includes medical doctors and licensed physicians, ophthalmologists and dentists, and usually includes neurologists, chiropractors, physical and rehabilitative therapists, acupuncture therapists, biofeedback therapists, massage therapists, homeopaths and reflexologists.
For devices designed for home use, no.
The inventors of SCENAR technology always intended that it be used not only by medical professionals but by the general public to treat acute and chronic problems – especially those associated with pain – and RITM Scenar has made this dream a reality.
Proper use of SCENAR home devices is easily learned and not really more complicated than operating many other electronic devices found in the home or office.
Once you've read the instructions carefully you're ready to use your RITM Scenar home device – there are no complicated calculations or techniques involved!
SCENAR is battery powered and does not require additional equipment or special facilities.
RITM Scenar home devices are compact and can easily fit in a purse or pocket – you can use your SCENAR anywhere and any time you need it!
In the case of more serious conditions and diseases, you will probably want to work with a professional SCENAR therapist.
Your professional SCENAR therapist can conduct effective treatment using his / her knowledge and experience – as well as the broad and deep range of RITM Scenar professional accessories, which do require special training. CLICK HERE FOR A DIRECTORY OF SCENAR SPECIALISTS TRAINED THERAPISTS IN MEXICO

Detachable probe electrodes substantially increase the therapeutic capabilities of professional RITM Scenar devices by making the therapist's work both easier and more precise in areas that are difficult to access. For example, the hair probe can be used to treat the scalp or other hairy areas of the body.
The number of SCENAR treatments required varies widely depending on what condition is being treated, and the course of treatments will vary from individual to individual, depending on the severity of the pathology, the person's age and their state of health.
In the simplest cases – relatively minor joint pain issues related to relatively minor injuries being a good example – one or two treatment sessions may well be all that is required to restore health and physical comfort.
In cases where the injury is more severe, it is usually desirable to create a continuous flow of circulating regulative peptides, and ideally SCENAR treatments should be more frequent. For fresh injuries where inflammation and / or swelling is severe treatment should be intensive, ideally once or even twice daily.
For chronic conditions treatments are ideally initially given two or three times a week and, as the condition improves, the frequency can be gradually reduced.
Your SCENAR devices is an electronic device and, like all electronic devices, will almost certainly be scanned before boarding, whether in checked or carry-on baggage.
Representatives of SCENAR Specialists regularly travel with SCENAR devices and accessories and we have yet to encounter a problem.
Generally, yes, but if you have concerns you should ask your physician.
SCENAR has proven to be safe for almost anyone, and children can be treated.
In over twenty years of widespread use in many countries around the world very few unwanted side effects have been reported. Since the electrical impulses sent by the device are designed to be very similar to the body's own impulses they are quite safe and there are few contra-indications.
Known contraindications are Pregnancy; the presence of Cardiac Pacemakers and / or other implanted electrical medical devices; Alcohol Intoxication at the time of treatment; highly unusual Acute Infectious Diseases and – very rare – Individual Intolerance, usually termed "hyper sensitization".
If you are in doubt about whether you have a condition that would make SCENAR treatments inadvisable, always consult your physician!
SCENAR electro-therapy is painless and, with a professional therapist and devices, the power of the electrical impulses is adjusted individually for every patient.
Generally, SCENAR treatments feel like a slight tingling pins-and-needles sensation -- and most people report that it feels rather pleasant.
When working with a professional SCENAR therapist it is even possible to have SCENAR treatments and not feel the electrical current at all -- ideal for highly electro-sensitive, very young or older people!
Prescriptions are not needed in Canada or Mexico.
The personal SCENAR devices are simple to use, but do not have the ability to take readings from the body.
Primarily designed for home use and as supplemental treatment tools for people undergoing more extensive treatment by professional SCENAR therapists, the personal devices are ideal for home use and simple applications.
The detail detailed bio-feedback information that appears on the screen of professional SCENAR devices allows trained SCENAR practitioners to change settings on the device to use more sophisticated treatment protocols and provide more accurate and effective treatments.
Professional SCENAR devices also accept a wide range of special-purpose accessories that enable trained SCENAR therapists to treat a wider range of complaints, and to treat them more rapidly and effectively.

SCENAR is compatible with most conventional medical treatments.
If you are receiving conventional medical treatment from a doctor you should, of course, inform him about your plans to employ SCENAR therapy.
Many physicians welcome supplemental SCENAR treatment and are aware that – under the doctors' supervision – they may enable you to reduce or even stop taking some medications, particularly those medications prescribed for pain management.
RITM Scenar devices are used by many conventional medical professionals including general practitioners, pediatricians, neurologists, gynecologists, obstetricians, ophthalmologists, sport doctors and dentists and alternative and complementary medicine practitioners including acupuncturists, homeopaths and reflexologists.
The major distinguishing characteristic of SCENAR in comparison to TENS is that the SCENAR device "listens" to the body being treated, and adjusts its electrical impulses based upon what it "hears" from the body.
With TENS, the repetitive electrical wave forms are typically square, spiked or sine, and monophasic. A TENS machine has no biofeedback capability, and there is no detection of changed tissue impedance or any other signal coming from the body.
By contrast, each SCENAR waveform is unique. Each electrical impulse is crafted in response to the body's messages, and the high amplitude and very short pulse width of the wave form prevent the body from "adapting" to the impulse in ways that hinder treatment.
TENS therapy is also largely static and non-specific: electrodes -- usually gelled pads -- are adhered to the skin in fixed locations.
SCENAR pain therapy is dynamic: the device is moved over the affected area in order to intelligently find optimal treatment points based upon the biofeedback registered by the device.
Our SCENAR devices have been scanned numerous times over many years with no apparent negative effect.
