What can SCENAR treat?

Learn more about the many types of pain that can be effectively treated with non-invasive SCENAR biofeedback technology

SCENAR electrotherapy has proven to be effective in the treatment of a very wide range of sources of pain, and is widely considered to be one of the cutting edge technologies for pain management.

Ankle and Foot Pain

Foot and ankle pain, stiffness and reduction of mobility can have many causes.

Simple things like tying shoes too tightly may cause pain and bruising on the top of the foot.

Athletic injuries or seemingly minor accidents – stepping off a curb onto the side of your foot – can instantly turn an ambulatory person into a limping shadow of their former self.

Whatever the cause, chronic ankle and foot pain can have a severe impact on quality of life and our ability to participate in activities that require mobility. SCENAR therapy has proven effective in rapidly reducing – or completely eliminating – foot and ankle pain, and restoring mobility.

Knee Pain

Chronic or acute knee pain is very common: it is reported that in the United States knee pain and stiffness is the cause of about a third of doctor's visits for muscle and bone pain, and over 50% of athletes have experienced it.

Typical reasons for knee pain are swollen or torn ligaments; cartilage tears; and "runner's knee", where repeated impact on the knee can irritate nerves near the kneecap and / or where tendons become overstretched. But the knee is a complex mechanism, and there's plenty more that can go wrong in and near that joint – even years after an injury: if a knee injury was not properly treated it can keep causing knee pain decades later.

SCENAR electrotherapy has proven effective in rapidly reducing – or completely eliminating – chronic and acute knee pain.

Hip Pain

Chronic or acute hip pain is one of the most distressing – and immobilizing – types of joint pain that a human can experience.

Hip pain is often associated with aging, and it is certainly true that older people often complain of it.

In older people hip pain can be caused by osteoporosis or arthritis, but they are only two of the many reasons our hips can hurt.

Whatever the cause, hip pain and stiffness can have a severe impact on our quality of life and ability to participate in activities that require mobility.

Experience has shown that SCENAR therapy often has an important role to play in managing hip pain, and has proved effective in rapidly reducing – or completely eliminating – hip pain.

Back Pain

Back pain is arguably the single most prevalent joint pain complaint.

There are various medical problems that can cause or contribute to back pain. Sedentary modern life also often plays a role in enabling and amplifying back pain – our ancestors didn't evolve sitting in chairs!

It is worth noting while the cause of back pain usually has a physical origin, emotional stress, anxiety and depression can play roles in how severe back pain is. Experience has shown that SCENAR therapy has proven effective in helping rapidly reduce – or completely eliminating – back pain.

Neck Pain

It is for good reason that the term "pain in the neck" is part of everyone's lexicon – pain located in the neck is a very common medical complaint!

Neck pain is often associated with shoulder pain, numbness or tingling in the arms, and headaches.

Other symptoms associated with some forms of neck pain include tenderness and dizziness.
Neck pain is often caused by trauma – like whiplash in a car accident – and can persist long after other injuries related to the trauma have completely healed. Whatever the cause, in many cases SCENAR therapy has proven effective in rapidly reducing – or completely eliminating – neck pain.

Shoulder Pain

The architecture of the shoulder joint sacrifices stability for mobility.

A healthy shoulder has a wide range of motion – it is the most mobile joint in the human body.

Inflammation or traumatic damage can cause shoulder pain. Shoulder pain may also be caused by arthritis, bone spurs, bursitis, fractures, dislocation or simple overuse. Pain can also occur in the shoulder from conditions that involve the soft tissues and bones surrounding the shoulder joint, or nerves connected to the shoulder.

Whether caused by trauma or other medical condition, shoulder pain, stiffness and restricted mobility can have a severe impact on our quality of life -- and SCENAR therapy can often help.

Elbow Pain

Call it "tennis elbow", "golfer's elbow" or simple "elbow pain", having acute or chronic pain in your elbow is no fun!

Tennis elbow usually begins with mild pain and often worsens over time. In more advanced cases even a small movement of the elbow can result in pain.

While tennis elbow afflicts a very large percentage of people who play racket sports, most people who develop tennis elbow do not play racket sports. Golfing is also a known cause, and work that involves frequent use of the forearm muscles – painting and plumbing, for example – are also associated with the onset of tennis elbow.

Whatever the cause, SCENAR electrotherapy has proven effective at reducing and even eliminating chronic elbow pain.

Wrist Pain

Wrist pain is a very common complaint.

While wrist pain can have many causes – impact, sprains, fractures or arthritis being obvious examples –

the vast majority of modern wrist pain has one general cause: the constant use of the computer keyboard and mouse. Usually referred to as repetitive stress injuries (or, often, carpal tunnel syndrome) these causes of wrist pain are often difficult to avoid in the modern workplace – and even in our homes.

Whether caused by trauma or repetitive stress, wrist pain and stiffness can have a severe impact on our overall quality of life. Experience has shown that SCENAR therapy can often effectively and rapidly reduce – or completely eliminate – wrist pain.

Headaches, Stress and Tension Pain

Stress, headaches, tension and depression are unfortunately common in modern life – and are usually deeply interconnected.

There can be purely physical causes of headaches. Migraine headaches, in particular, are often associated with specific chemical imbalances, and what are often termed "secondary headaches" are generally the result of an underlying structural problem or problems in the head and / or neck.

But studies have shown that the vast majority of headaches are related to tension and stress – as many as 90% of us report having what are termed "tension" headaches, which occur more frequently among women than men. Despite the fact that tension headaches are the most prevalent type of headache, there is no medical consensus on their exact cause and mechanism of expression.

Modern life provides ample triggers for tension headaches, and often a viscous circle forms: stress triggers headaches; headaches amplify stress; chronic headaches become a component of depression which leads to more stress, more headaches and deeper depression.
